**Ederson will be officially confirmed as a Man Utd player following his return from the World Cup.**
The Red Devils will pay around £38m (including add-ons) for the Brazilian international.
So, what do United fans need to know about Ederson? Let’s go through his playing career…
Ederson was born in Campo Grande, a City in Western Brazil, but he started his football career 1000km away in Sao Paulo.
The midfielder came through the academy of Desportivo Brasil, and his talent was spotted pretty early on, having been sent out on loan to Chinese Super League side Shandong Luneng in 2017.
Ultimately, Ederson returned to Brazil, where he was subsequently loaned out to Cruzeiro, who also had an option to buy him.
He was still only 19 years of age, and the initial plan was to use him in their Under-20 setup, but the lack of depth in the first-team squad meant he was given his senior debut against Botafogo just a couple of months after his arrival. He scored his first goal – a winner against Corinthians – in October 2019.
[**Ederson**](https://manunews.com/blog/man-utd-transfer-news-ederson-5-things-you-may-not-know/) ended up making 22 appearances during the 2019 season, but he was not able to prevent Cruzeiro from being relegated from the top flight.
Cruzeiro’s financial problems also meant that they were struggling to pay their players, and Ederson had to sue his team for unpaid wages. He was ultimately allowed to leave on a free transfer, joining Corinthians – the team he scored his first senior goal against.
Ederson spent two more seasons in Brazil, playing for Corinthians in the 2020 campaign before being loaned out to Fortaleza in 2021. By that time, his performances had attracted the attention of European clubs.
Ederson’s move to Italy
-----------------------
Italian Serie A side Salernitana paid €6.5m for the midfielder in the 2022 January transfer window, and he quickly established himself as a regular starter, making the first eleven 13 times in the second half of the 2021/22 campaign.
Salernitana ended up saving themselves from relegation, despite losing 4-0 to Udinese on the final day (a game Ederson was suspended for). Cagliari were relegated instead after failing to beat Venezia.
In his six months with Salernitana, though, Ederson had done enough to earn himself a move to Atalanta, who paid just over €20m to secure his services in the summer of 2022.
His career at Atalanta
----------------------
The Brazilian had to wait to make his debut after suffering a hamstring injury in pre-season, but he made his first appearance for his new club against Hellas Verona at the end of August 2022.
Ederson would start 26 games in all competitions in his first year, making 37 appearances in total, and he helped Atalanta finish in 5th place. Under the management of Gian Piero Gasperini, the club was very much on an upward trajectory.
The 2023/24 campaign was a significant one for the Italian side, with Ederson playing an integral role as they won the Europa League. They defeated Bayer Leverkusen in the final, who had not lost a match in any competition up until that point.
Atalanta had beaten the likes of Sporting Lisbon, Liverpool and Marseille on the way to the final, with Ederson impressing in every round. He had also discovered his scoring touch, especially in the league. He found the back of the net 7 times in all competitions.
At the end of the 2023/24 season, the midfielder was handed his first cap for Brazil, starting a 3-2 friendly win over Mexico.
He has earned high praise from the likes of Capello
---------------------------------------------------
Over the last two seasons, Ederson has cemented his position as one of the most dynamic midfield players in European football. Speaking back in December 2024, Milan legend Fabio Capello said:
“A midfielder worthy of a top European club: Ederson. He’s out of this world with his ability to combine running, physicality, technique, and intelligence.”
Now 26 years of age, Ederson will be keen to make a big impression in the Premier League with United.
