The Kansas City Chiefs are set to kick off training camp in just about a month, and with the annual trek to St. Joseph nearly here, we're going to spend the next several weeks examining every position group on the roster heading into camp.
We'll begin at quarterback, where the Chiefs employ a future Pro Football Hall of Famer in Patrick Mahomes. The 30-year-old Mahomes has led the Chiefs to the most regular-season (96) and playoff (17) wins of any team since 2018. His 17 career postseason victories trail only Tom Brady among quarterbacks in NFL history.
Additionally, Mahomes – who already has two NFL MVP and three Super Bowl MVP awards under his belt – also owns the league marks for touchdown passes (267) and passing yards (35,939) through 126 career regular season games in NFL history.
Mahomes is undeniably on track to end his career as one of the greatest players the game has ever seen, and despite suffering a knee injury that ended his season in early December, Mahomes appears to be progressing well through the rehab process.
Behind Mahomes, the Chiefs currently have three quarterbacks under contract who will compete for an opportunity to make the regular-season roster. Let's take a look at each, beginning with veteran signal caller Justin Fields.
### **Justin Fields**
The No. 11 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Fields has spent time with the Chicago Bears (2021-23), Pittsburgh Steelers (2024) and New York Jets (2025) during his career.
Fields started nine games for New York last season, completing 128-of-204 passes for 1,259 yards and seven touchdowns. Additionally, it was only two years ago that Fields led the Steelers to a 4-2 start through six games while incumbent starter Russell Wilson worked his way back from an injury.
An electric runner, Fields also holds the distinction of being one of just three quarterbacks in NFL history to rush for 1,000 yards in a season, joining Lamar Jackson and Michael Vick by doing so in 2022.
