Arsenal favourite explains why Tottenham Hotspur youngster is one of the best

Tottenham Hotspur youngster Luka Vuskovic is destined for the top, and Arsenal favourite Per Mertesacker knows exactly why.

MOPO cover comments from the former Arsenal defender today as speculation continues to mount about the Tottenham defender’s future.

Tottenham future uncertain

Luka Vuskovic is the centre of attention this summer after an impressive season on loan at HSV Hamburg from Tottenham.

What Spurs do with him this summer remains to be seen. While the 19-year-old has made it clear he prioritises playing time, that may not be on offer immediately under Roberto de Zerbi.

He has already bolstered his defensive options ahead of next season with the signings of Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul Van Hecke, while Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are already at the club.

Brighton have already been making overtures, trying to convince Tottenham into a sale this summer. In the meantime, Luka Vuskovic has been earning admirers at the World Cup with Croatia.

One of those is Per Mertesacker, the former Arsenal defender. He thinks the Tottenham man is destined for the top of the game.

“A real rising star,” he said on ZDF.

“But he was already a key player at HSV at the age of 19. It’s incredible how young players like him are already taking on responsibility, both on and off the pitch.”

Tottenham refuse to budge

He then went on to predict the defender’s future. And for him, it’s a positive whatever happens in the coming weeks.

“He’ll return to Tottenham Hotspur, where he’ll either stay and play in the Premier League – or be sold for a lot of money.”

The latter seems most likely at this moment in time. With Brighton keen and Luka Vuskovic himself seemingly convinced by Fabian Hurzeler, there’s certainly an inclination to make the move happen.

But, as Sport Witness have covered, Tottenham are refusing to budge on their demands. That could make things awkward as the summer progresses, and he continues to earn new admirers.
