Man City are so confident that they have won the race for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson that they have “doctors on standby to hold a medical” in Kansas, according to reports.

TEAMtalk claim that is now very likely that the England international will complete a move to the Etihad Stadium.

Despite being with his country at the World Cup, Anderson will be given permission to undergo a medical if and when a deal is struck between City and Forest.

The Manchester club have had a bid worth upwards of £121m rejected for the 23-year-old, but it seems a follow-up proposal could well be accepted.

How much could Anderson cost?

TEAMtalk report that City are prepared to splash out £120m up front for the former Newcastle player, with up to £10m more in performance-related add-ons.

Anderson was always going to break the club’s transfer record, but there is now a good chance that the British record will be smashed too.

Is there any danger that Man City’s deal could be hijacked?

Rivals Manchester United are known to be big fans of Anderson, but they have been scared off by Forest’s valuation. There is next to no chance that the player will make a U-turn and make the switch to Old Trafford instead.

It is very much a one-horse race for the midfielder. Personal terms are said to be a formality, and the departure of Pep Guardiola is said to have no bearing on his interest in joining City.

Prospective new head coach Enzo Maresca is believed to have backed City’s move for Anderson, and it looks like both will be wearing the club’s colours in very short order.
