Rams Rookie Ty Simpson Does Not Want to Get on Matthew Stafford’s Bad Side

The Los Angeles Rams surprised many when they drafted Ty Simpson atNo. 13 this year. Matthew Stafford leads a crowded quarterback room.

The Alabama Crimson Tide product spent his entire collegiate career with the program and stood out as one of thetop prospects in his class. The team is likely positioning him as the potential successor to the reigning NFL MVP once he retires.

Simpson played and started all 15 games for Alabama in 2025. He completed 305-of-473 passes for 3,567 yards and five interceptions. Scouts widely considered the 23-year-old the second-best signal-caller this year, who has the potential to be a difference maker in the pros. He’ll have to wait for his turn to become a full-time starter, as Stafford aims to lead the Rams to another Super Bowl win.

However, Simpson may receive some playing time later in the campaign. Coaches and veteran teammates will also mentor him off the field.

Ty Simpson Expresses Appreciation For Rams Star QB Matthew Stafford

Simpson shared what he saw from his team during OTAs and minicamp. He highlighted how Stafford acts as his big brother and that he is learning a lot from him. The rookie expressed how he does not want to get on Stafford’s bad side as he learns from the veteran.

“I hope I’m not annoying him,”Simpson said, via the LA Times. “But I really appreciate the big brother kind of role he’s playing in my development.

“… (Stafford is) the MVP for a reason. Everything he does, he’s so just aware of everything, aware of how everything works. I really appreciate him and (backup quarterback) Stetson (Bennett) taking me in and answering all the questions I have.”

Simpson will be buried in the quarterback depth chart to start his NFL career. He’ll have to work his way up by mastering the playbook and proving that he belongs. The good news is that he has a lot of people supporting him and rooting for his future success.
