Real Madrid are reportedly prepared to sanction Aurelien Tchouameni's departure as Manchester United remain linked with a swoop for the France international. United's summer priority centres on overhauling their midfield, particularly following Casemiro's exit after his contract expired.
Their prospects of landing Tchouameni have been strengthened with Real, according to Gianluigi Longari of SportItalia, willing to allow the 26-year-old to leave the Santiago Bernabeu this summer. The report does suggest, however, that the midfielder wishes to stay with the La Liga heavyweights.
The most recent midfielder to swap Real for Old Trafford was Casemiro, who secured the Carabao Cup and FA Cup during his spell with the club. It also emerged over the weekend that incoming Real manager Jose Mourinho has pinpointed Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez as his primary midfield objective.
Yet for a deal to materialise, Tchouameni may need to be offloaded to generate funds and create space for the Argentine's arrival. When questioned about Tchouameni's potential Old Trafford switch, former United midfielder Nicky Butt told Paddy Power last month: "I wouldn't have any doubts bringing him in because of the fight.
"Unless someone really tells me something really bad that happened prior to the fight, it wouldn't change my mind. I think it happens in every changing room.
"It's certainly happened in the ones that I was in. I think there's a lot of testosterone floating about a lot of egos floating around in changing rooms. Something gets said and it kicks off.

"It's not the ideal thing that you want in a team, but I wouldn't certainly wouldn't be going around thinking, 'I wouldn't be going near him or touching him', unless it comes out that he's done something that's really out of order.
"He's still my main target for midfield. I think he's powerful, aggressive, everything that Man United need in a midfielder."
Regarding other midfield options, United have withdrawn from the race to land Elliot Anderson after Manchester City submitted a bid exceeding £120million for the 23-year-old. United's hierarchy are reluctant to match that sort of valuation for the England international.
The Red Devils are equally keen on acquiring Mateus Fernandes, who looks set to depart West Ham United this summer following their drop to the Sky Bet Championship. Meanwhile, Ederson confirmed at the weekend that his switch to United is 'almost all sorted'.
United struck an agreement with Atalanta earlier this month to bring in the midfielder, who appears destined to become Michael Carrick's first signing since taking charge at Old Trafford.
The Reds are due to pay an initial €40.5million (£35m), plus €4.5m (£3.8m) in add-ons for the 26-year-old.
