Manchester United transfer news: The Red Devils are tracking Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi

Manchester United transfer news: Manchester United have shifted their transfer focus to Belgium. According to journalist Baz Cooper, Old Trafford chiefs are keeping close tabs on Club Brugge forward Nicolo Tresoldi. The 20-year-old German-Italian has enjoyed a breakout year on the continent. He has scored 23 goals across all competitions this season.

That sort of form sparks interest. Unsurprisingly, Brugge do not want to sell their prized asset on the cheap. They hold all the cards here because Tresoldi is locked into a contract that runs until 2029. Reports suggest the Belgian side will demand a premium package between €30 million and €40 million before they even entertain a phone call.

United are desperate for firepower. Rasmus Hojlund packed his bags for Napoli in May in a €44 million deal, leaving a massive void up front. Tresoldi fits the profile of a modern, dynamic attacker, but United are not alone. Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund, and Atletico Madrid are also interested.

The verdict on a risky €40m gamble

Jason Wilcox cannot afford to make another expensive mistake. We have seen this film at Old Trafford too many times. Rushing into inflated deals for unproven talent has crippled the club’s wage bill and squad harmony for a decade. Under the strict new cost and sustainability rules, financial discipline is everything.

Is Tresoldi worth €40 million? Absolutely not. Not yet. One high-scoring season outside Europe’s top five leagues does not guarantee Premier League success. The physical drop-offs and defensive intensity in England will shock a young player used to the Belgian Pro League. If a bidding war starts with Arsenal or Dortmund, United must walk away.

Look at the alternatives. Ivan Toney or Jonathan David are available for similar money. They offer immediate, proven returns.

Tresoldi clearly has talent. Twelve goals in 24 caps for Germany’s Under-21s prove he knows where the net is. Crucially, he missed out on the senior German World Cup squad this month. That is a blessing in disguise for United because his price tag has not been artificially inflated by tournament hype.

If Wilcox decides to make the move, the structure of the deal needs to protect the club. Offer a base payment of €25 million. Load the rest with heavy, performance-related add-ons up to that €10 million mark. If he fails to hit the ground running, the financial hit is mitigated. Spending the bulk of the remaining summer budget on a single developmental project is a gamble United simply cannot afford.
