Jeffrey Kessler: Exclusion of Brendan Sorsby from supplemental draft violates the CBA

It’s not over. It’s just beginning.

With the NFL slamming the door on quarterback Brendan Sorsby’s application for the supplemental draft, Sorsby’s lawyer will fight the decision.

“It is a violation of the CBA and the law,” Jeffrey Kessler told Pete Thamel of ESPN. “We will pursue this immediately with the NFLPA.”

Sorsby isn’t a member of the NFL Players Association. However, the supplemental draft was created by collective bargaining. The NFLPA has standing to challenge the NFL’s decision to not conduct a supplemental draft — if it chooses to do so.

Sorsby has separate rights that could be pursued in court. Kessler has not yet said that he will be filing a lawsuit. It’s obviously one of the potential avenues for pursuing relief from the NFL’s decision to freeze Sorsby out until 2027.
