Journalist claims United are not interested in£50m-rated star — fans will be disappointed

Manchester United want to sign a new left-back this summer to provide competition for Luke Shaw.

United have been credited with an interest in Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall. The England international is open to leaving the Tynesiders in the current transfer window.

However, journalist Mike Keegan claims United are not interested in the Chelsea academy graduate.

He told The United Stand: “No one at Man United knows where the reports linking Man United to Lewis Hall come from, they’re not interested in signing the player as it stands. “There’s “bafflement” at the reports.”

While it is unclear whether United will be exploring other left-back options, Noussair Mazraoui and Diego Dalot would provide cover for Shaw if they fail to sign a left full-back.

United should reconsider Hall transfer stance

Shaw enjoyed a decent campaign last term, featuring in 38 Premier League games and providing two goal involvements. He particularly excelled at recovering loose balls.

However, he struggled in winning one-on-one duels and offered little offensively, ranking in the 18th and ninth percentiles for accurate crosses and expected assists.

Hall would represent a big upgrade on Shaw, given his ability at both ends of the pitch. At 21, he could [develop into the Red Devils’ long-term first-choice left-back](http://manutdnews.com/forget-sandro-tonali-man-united-must-sign-lewis-hall-as-luke-shaw-successor/ ? ?).

Hall would be open to joining United, with a move to Old Trafford potentially improving his chances of earning a recall to the England squad.

Newcastle are expected to demand a substantial transfer fee for Hall as he has three years left on his current deal. An offer around £50 million could tempt them to sell the left full-back.
