Gary Neville and Sir David Beckham continue to make moves as preparations for the new season gather pace.

The Manchester United legends still hold significant influence at Old Trafford, but away from the Reds they also continue to shape the futures of other clubs.

One of those clubs narrowly missed out on promotion last season, falling short of automatic promotion on the final day before suffering heartbreak in the play-off final.

As a result, the club have wasted little time strengthening their squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Earlier this week, Centre Devils reported how Gary Neville and Sir David Beckham helped secure the signing of Joe Powell as the first addition of the summer transfer window.

Now, the club have moved to complete another important piece of business.

According to the official Salford City website, the League Two side have agreed a deal to sign experienced defender Will Aimson following the expiry of his contract elsewhere.

Salford strengthen promotion push

Aimson arrives with a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success in the lower divisions.

The 32-year-old central defender is a three-time promotion winner from League Two, having previously achieved promotion with Blackpool, Bury and Plymouth Argyle.

Speaking to Salford’s official media channels, Aimson explained that the club’s ambition played a major role in his decision.

He said: “Promotion is something that I want to achieve this season. There is a clear plan at this football club and an ambition that fits me.”

Aimson added that his sole reason for joining was to achieve success and earn another promotion.

The defender began his career at Eastleigh before moving to Hull City as a teenager and later enjoyed spells with clubs including Tranmere Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, Exeter City and Wigan Athletic.

The arrival of Aimson represents Salford’s second signing of the summer as Neville and Beckham continue their efforts to guide the Ammies towards promotion.

Meanwhile, Beckham has also remained busy elsewhere, recently holding transfer discussions with Kylian Mbappe regarding a possible future move to Major League Soccer.

With recruitment continuing at Moor Lane, Salford supporters will hope these additions can help deliver promotion during the upcoming campaign.
