Newcaste United's pre-season plans so far with friendly dates still in the pipline
Newcastle United have still only confirmed one pre-season friendly, with the players returning the training in less than a month.
The Magpies will face Everton in Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium on Wednesday, August 12, with that match kicking off a 5pm.
As yet, there have been no other fixtures confirmed, although they are expected to face Lee Cattermole's Gateshead at the International Stadium in late July.
Eddie Howe's squad will come together in the week beginning Monday, July 13, with fitness tests taking place at the club's Benton HQ.
The group will then head off to a training camp at La Manga in Spain, although no dates have been confirmed for that trip.
In recent years, United have held two pre-season friendlies at St James' Park, the week before the season starts. This year, that would the weekend of August 15-16.
ChronicleLive revealed in April that Italian giants AS Roma had been invited to play at Newcastle ahead of the new season.
United are far from the only club to have a limited schedule to date, with Bournemouth, Brighton, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Hull City and Nottingham Forest yet to arrange a fixture.
Liverpool, Leeds United and Sunderland will play in a tournament in the USA, along with Championship side Wrexham, but some clubs are travelling further.
Aston Villa and Chelsea have fixtures in the Far East, while Tottenham will travel to Australia and New Zealand in late July and early August.
The World Cup final will be held on Sunday, July 19, with any Newcastle player involved in the tournament given at least a further three weeks off. As things stand, Bruno Guimaraes, Dan Burn, Anthony Elanga, Nick Woltemade, Malick Thiaw and Yoane Wissa all look set to progress to the knockout stages.,
