Brendan Sorsby's representative, Ron Slavin, believed the NFL would approve his client's entry into the Supplemental Draft this summer despite reservations, but the league has reportedly already reached its verdict on the controversial quarterback.
Although he secured an injunction against the NCAA earlier this month and was therefore deemed eligible to compete in 2026 after the organization found him guilty of sports betting, Sorsby, 23, shifted his attention toward going professional, but in a surprising development Tuesday, it was reported that the NFL will not hold a Supplemental Draft this summer.
It emerged last week that the Texas Tech quarterback intended to enter the NFL Supplemental Draft due to ongoing legal disputes regarding his NCAA eligibility.

The NFL will not permit the former Indiana and Cincinnati star to enter the Supplemental Draft — a process for college players to join the NFL whose eligibility status changed after the regular spring draft — as a consequence of his gambling infractions, according to multiple reports.
The NFL typically demonstrates leniency and most franchises will usually be prepared to gamble on a player if they think he can contribute to victories, but appears to be adopting a stricter position on Sorsby given the character of his violations. Combined with the reality that just one player has faced NFL discipline for actions committed during his college years since 2006, there was optimism that Sorsby would emerge unharmed.

These were the sentiments expressed by his agent, Slavin, who argues that examining the available evidence clearly shows Sorsby is not a problematic individual.
"I would hope not," Slavin said on Monday's #PFTPM when asked whether there's any reason to think the NFL could decide not to let Sorsby into its Supplemental Draft.
"I mean, if anybody reads the NCAA investigation, they went through all four years of Brendan's bets. The conclusion was there's never integrity of the game violations.
"Again, his bets at Indiana were from the dorm room, not on the travel roster. The minute he was on the travel roster, there was never another college football bet ever placed.

"What I keep hearing over and over and over is, 'Oh, can I trust this kid on my roster? Is he gonna bet on games that he plays in?' He had 35 starts in college football. He never bet on any games he played in. He never bet on college football once he actually was playing.

"Again, I think this was a situation where we've created 18-to-22-year old kids, if they're gonna watch a game, they're gonna put money on it. And at the time, that's what he did. But he never did it again.
"And, I mean, this is a kid who literally doesn't drink, doesn't smoke. He's just a great kid who, you know, made a mistake at 18. He was getting crucified now, four or five years later."
