Shedeur Sanders is one of the most promising quarterbacks in the NFL. He is also expected to be one of the emerging quarterbacks next season. Drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2025, he had a good rookie season and managed to play many games.
Ahead of next season, Sanders already has some achievements. Despite some early success, he is a doubt to be a starter for next season. And his head coach has now talked about his future with the team.
Todd Monken warns against Brendan Sorsby addition to Shedeur Sanders
Sanders is not expected to be the clear choice for the starting role next season, with veteran quarterback Deshaun Watson apppearing to be the clear choice. Head coach Todd Monken has refused to choose a main starting quarterback at this point.

The Browns have recently explored adding quarterback Brendan Sorsby to the team’s quarterback room if selected in the 2026 NFL Supplemental Draft. The former Texas Tech player recently entered the supplemental draft after quitting college football due to eligibility issues tied to admitted sports betting violations. He has a Pro Day scheduled for July 10 with many teams interested in him.
However, Monken has expressed some doubts regarding signing him due to his history. He said, “That’s not even come across my desk. I don’t think we’re in a position to want to go down that road. That’s my opinion. That’s not Andrew’s. I like the quarterbacks that we have. I think that’s a slippery slope when we go down that, irrespective of talent, in terms of the situation he’s put himself in. We all know what that is. We’ve seen in other sports with players that have been banned for life from playing in professional sports.”
He also added, “That’s a question for Andrew and for management, but from my end of it, kind of a tough angle to go down that road and think that that’s going to be your franchise quarterback if he’s ever eligible to even play in the NFL.” While the head coach may not be willing to sign Sorsby, the franchise could move in a different direction.
Cleveland Browns exploring trading Shedeur Sanders
The Browns already have a stacked quarterback room ahead of next season, with Sanders, Watson, Dillon Gabriel, and rookie Tayler Green. With the team exploring signing Sorsby in the upcoming Supplemental Draft, there is a chance they part ways with Sanders.General manager Andrew Berry has already shown that he is willing to let players go, such as the blockbuster trade of Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams.
When asked about Sorsby and Monken’s comments on him, Berry simply said,“We haven’t had a supplemental draft in awhile or I guess a couple of years now. No different than we do every year, we’ll do the work on all the prospects and then we’ll make the appropriate decision for the organization.”
If the franchise does sign Sorsby, with Watson as the starter for next season, they could possibly trade Sanders. However, there is no concrete rumor or insider suggesting that yet. Shedeur Sanders will be hoping that he gets to be the starter ahead of the next season.
