Cristiano Ronaldo scored a first-half brace either side of Nuno Mendes’ free-kick for Portugal, who dominated possession from the kick-off.

Uzbekistan thought they had a route back into the game at 2-0 down through a fierce Azizjon Ganiev strike but it was eventually chalked off for a foul on former City man Joao Cancelo.

Khusanov made an acrobatic goal line clearance at the very end of the first half but Portugal had fourth when he diverted a low corner into his own goal.

The result was complete when Rafael Leao hammered home in the 88th minute.

Matheus Nunes was an unused substitute for Portugal.

England, with a squad including City stars Marc Guéhi, Nico O’Reilly and James Trafford, face Antoine Semenyo’s Ghana later this evening.

We’ll have a roundup from that match, as with every game at this summer’s World Cup involving City players, shortly after it concludes.
