Liverpool are reportedly prioritising right-back as a key area to strengthen this summer after a season in which they used as many as seven different players in the position.
While Conor Bradley is highly rated, there are concerns over his recovery from the serious knee injury he suffered in January. Jeremie Frimpong has also struggled with fitness issues, leaving Liverpool short of consistent options.
The Reds were previously linked with Lutsharel Geertruida, but a move did not materialise. Denzel Dumfries has also attracted interest, although he is now said to have joined Real Madrid.
According to transfer expert Ben Jacobs, Atalanta right-back Marco Palestra has been offered to both Liverpool and Arsenal.
The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Cagliari, making 37 appearances and scoring once, and has earned two caps for Italy since his debut in March.
Atalanta value the defender at around €45m plus €5m in bonuses, with interest from several top clubs, including Inter Milan, who have been working on a deal.
Jacobs posted on X: “Inter are trying to finalise a deal to sign Marco Palestra from Atalanta for a fee worth over €50m. However, #CFC have now entered the race for the 21-year-old, as @David_Ornstein called. Palestra has also been offered as an option to both Liverpool and Arsenal.”
The Athletic, meanwhile, reports that Palestra’s future is set to be decided in the coming days, with Inter Milan facing strong competition from Chelsea and another Premier League side for one of Europe’s most promising young players.
A move to Inter would see him return to the club where he spent a year in the academy before joining Atalanta. He made his senior debut for Atalanta in December 2023 and has since gone on to make 16 first-team appearances.
Liverpool have been tracking Palestra closely, having previously explored a move for the defender before shifting their focus to Jeremie Frimpong last summer.
