Manchester United legends Gary Neville and Sir David Beckham continue overseeing significant changes at Salford City following another heartbreaking end to a campaign.

Last season, they narrowly missed out on promotion to League One.

The club, part-owned by members of Manchester United’s famous Class of ’92, have already started reshaping both their squad and backroom staff ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Manchester United have also been making important decisions this summer.

Back in April, Harry Maguire signed a new contract at Old Trafford, extending the stay of one of the club’s most experienced defenders.

Now, another former United defender has officially confirmed a major career development.

The former Red announced through Instagram that his time at Salford City had come to an end after two-and-a-half years at the club.

The individual in question is Alex Bruce.

Bruce officially confirmed his departure through an emotional statement posted on Instagram.

The 41-year-old thanked Karl Robinson, the players, staff and supporters for what he described as a hugely enjoyable and valuable experience.

Bruce also praised Robinson’s work, insisting the former Salford manager should be immensely proud of what he achieved during his time at the club.

The ex-defender admitted Salford were unfortunate not to secure promotion and said representing the club had been an important part of his development as a coach.

Bruce concluded his statement by thanking everybody working behind the scenes and wishing the club every success in the future.

The former defender spent part of his youth career at Manchester United between 1998 and 2001 before moving to Blackburn Rovers.

Although he did not make a senior appearance at Old Trafford, Bruce went on to enjoy a lengthy professional career spanning more than 300 senior appearances.

The son of former Manchester United captain Steve Bruce represented clubs including Ipswich Town, Leeds United, Hull City, Wigan Athletic and Birmingham City, while also earning senior international caps for both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Meanwhile, another former United defender, Phil Jones, has officially joined Sheffield United’s coaching staff ahead of next season after beginning his coaching journey at Blackburn Rovers.

Bruce’s departure represents another significant change behind the scenes as Neville and Beckham continue preparations for a crucial campaign.
