The New York Jets last season made a trade that involved wide receiver Adonai Mitchell and draft picks from the Indianapolis Colts for cornerback Sauce Gardner. Mitchell last season caught 33 passes for 453 yards receiving and two touchdowns, along with averaging 13.7 yards per reception. He was targeted 74 times.

It will be interesting to see how he will perform this season with Geno Smith as his quarterback. The Jets wide receiver core will also be different this season. To go along with Mitchell, some of the other wide receivers on this roster are rookie Omar Cooper Jr. and Garrett Wilson. Can the Jets offense be better this season? Who are some of the players that have stood out for New York so far?

Each espn.com writer wrote about which NFL player is the biggest surprise on their respective team as we had into training camp. Rich Cimini covers the Jets for espn.com. He thinks that Mitchell has been the biggest surprise for the Jets. Cimini said,
“The Jets figured Mitchell would take a leap this offseason — his first with the team — but he exceeded their expectations. Mitchell, acquired from the Colts last November in the Sauce Gardner trade, solidified himself as the No. 2 receiver. He displayed a firm grasp of the new system, allowing him to flash his vertical speed. His chemistry with quarterback Geno Smith was quickly apparent. Mitchell should be a nice complement to Garrett Wilson.”
If the Jets offense can get humming this season, Mitchell, Wilson, and Cooper could be a good wide receiver trio moving forward. Even if Smith doesn’t pan out, the next quarterback they draft will have very good offensive pieces along with Breece Hall and Kenyon Sadiq Jr.
