Aston Villa could make stunning £50m PL gem raid as Liverpool look to beat Arsenal to World Cup star signing

The latest Premier League transfer news including Man United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Aston Villa and more

The summer is here at last, and the 2026 FIFA World Cup has been a feast of football for fans to enjoy while the Premier League takes a well-earned break. There’s no rest for the players, however, with over 160 of the competition’s biggest stars now battling it out in North America in the hope of becoming world champions with their respective nations.

Meanwhile, the summer transfer window is starting to liven up, with a number of clubs making some early moves. Liverpool swooped to hijack Newcastle United’s deal for Spain winger Victor Munoz, while Tottenham Hotspur have already completed three deals in the form of Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke.

Today’s rumour mill round-up gets underway at Old Trafford, where Man United are gearing up for a busy few weeks of both buying and selling players. According to Caught Offside, Barcelona could be set to approach them with an offer for star striker Benjamin Sesko, after struggling to get a deal done for their number one target: Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez.

The report claims that the Red Devils have been bullish in their response to Barca’s apparent interest, with United making it clear they have no interest in selling the striker they signed less than a year ago. It’s said that manager Michael Carrick is looking to build his side around the Slovenian ace, and it’s suggested that he has ‘untouchable’ status at the club.

The 3AM Verdict: Sesko had a decent enough first season at Old Trafford, scoring eleven Premier League goals despite the side’s great struggles early on in the campaign before the disastrous reign of Ruben Amorim ended. If Barcelona up the ante and unsettle the player, they might just force United’s hand - the Catalan giants do have a habit of getting what they want.

Aston Villa ‘express strong interest’ in West Ham gem

Next up, it’s over to Villa Park, where Aston Villa are looking to build on an excellent 2025/26 campaign that saw them shake off a sloppy start and go on to win the Europa League and secure a top four finish. They’re after reinforcements on the wing this summer, and The Athletic claim they’ve got a top target in mind: West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen.

The England international looks set to leave the Irons after they were relegated to the Championship on the final day of last season, and the story says Villa have “expressed strong interest” in signing the 29-year-old, who could be sold for around £50m. It’s suggested, however, that the Villans may need to sell players first to afford the fee.

Villa boss Unai Emery is said to be a big fan of the ex-Hull City gem, but it’s also suggested that Bowen still hasn’t made his mind up on his future, and West Ham are not actively looking to sell the player despite their own financial issues. They could, however, see Mateus Fernandes leave soon, with Man United pushing hard to sign the Portuguese ace.

The 3AM Verdict: Bowen would be an excellent signing for Villa, whose current right-wing options of Leon Bailey and Alysson are inferior to those boasted by a number of their Premier League rivals. Bowen is too good to be playing Championship football again, even for one season, and should take the opportunity to star in the Champions League while he still can.

We’ll round things off at Anfield, where Liverpool are preparing to begin a new era under incoming manager Andoni Iraola. The Reds are expected to beef up their midfield with a new signing before the start of next season, and Football Insider claim they’re ready to join the race to sign Lille and Morocco star Ayyoub Bouaddi, who’s been turning heads at the World Cup.

The report suggests the 19-year-old, who bossed the midfield in Morocco’s 1-0 World Cup win over Scotland, is seen as a potential target to replace Curtis Jones at Anfield, as he closes in on a move to Serie A side Inter. Bouaddi, who excelled in Ligue 1 with Lille last season, is also thought to be of interest to both Liverpool and Chelsea.

The 3AM Verdict: Bouaddi appears the real deal already, looking composed in midfield with some exceptional technical skills at his disposal. Previous reports have suggested he could cost around £70m, which is a serious amount of money to spend on a teenager. Still,Liverpool spent over £400m on new signings last season, so clearly aren’t short of a bob or two.
