Brandon Aiyuk’s name continues to surface in theWashington Commanders rumors, however, one of his longtime teammates just offered a response that might give fans pause.
During a June 22 appearance on Barstool Sports’ Pardon My Take, theSan Francisco 49ers starGeorge Kittle was asked by co-host and the Commanders fan PFT Commenter whether Washington supporters should be excited about the possibility of landing Aiyuk. Kittle’s answer quickly became one of the most talked-about moments from the interview.

When the conversation turned to Aiyuk potentially ending up in the Commanders, Kittle did not exactly offer a ringing endorsement.
“You guys have fun with that, I guess. You have fun with all that comes with it.”

This tweet became particularly noteworthy in light of the fact that Kittle and Aiyuk spent five seasons playing for the 49ers in San Francisco and used to be seen as vital members of the offense of the team. While Kittle was careful not to go into every little detail in connection with this particular tweet, it clearly referred to the off-the-field issues that have been bothering Aiyuk during the past year.
Indeed, the relationship between Aiyuk and the 49ers has greatly worsened following Aiyuk’s signing of an extension in 2024. The situation only worsened as soon as it was reported that the wide receiver refused to take part in the team’s activities, which resulted in Aiyuk being placed on the reserve/left squad list by the 49ers.
In turn, Aiyuk continues to fuel the speculation about his potential move to the Washington Commanders. Indeed, recently the WR has been posting pictures with the jersey of Washington Commanders along with videos of himself shouting “Go Commanders.”

The sarcasm indicated an underlying frustration with Aiyuk’s contract saga and its consequences. This statement was also a clear change in tone from Kittle, who had shown great support for his teammate in previous instances during the standoff.
It’s yet to be seen whether Aiyuk will end up playing for the Commanders. But Kittle’s recent statements clearly show that even though the receiver is talented, his departure from the 49ers will not be forgotten easily by the team.
