NFL Makes Big-Time Draft Announcement

The NFL has decided not to hold a supplemental draft for quarterback Brendan Sorsby, which means he will not be able to play in the league in 2026.

NFL officials determined that holding a supplemental draft would ultimately become a distraction for teams as training camps begin. They referencedd the collective bargaining agreement.

“His application carries with it a lot of issues,” an NFL source told ESPN. “Core of the game integrity issues.”

During his tenure with Indiana football, Sorsby admitted to gambling thousands of times on college and pro sports. The total amount he spent on bets was more than $90,000.

During an interview with ESPN, Sorsby’s attorney Jeffrey Kessler asserted that the NFL’s decision not to conduct a supplemental draft “is a violation of the CBA and the law. We will pursue this immediately with the NFLPA.”

There has been no determination made by the Players Association whether this is legal or not.

In a letter obtained by ESPN, the league informed Sorsby: “Your Petition — filed three business days before the deadline, without any supporting information or documentation, and only after abandoning your recent litigation efforts to avoid NCAA sanctions — does not provide a basis for the League to alter those plans.”

It was initially decided that Sorsby could play at Texas Tech this season if a temporary injunction was issued. However, Sorsby withdrawn his suit when the Big 12 filed in federal court to punish him and Texas Tech.

In a letter to Sorsby, the league stated that he sought entry solely because he had been declared ineligible.

“The Petition provides no information regarding the basis for, or timing of, the NCAA’s decision,” the letter states. “Public sources, however, indicate that in May 2026 the NCAA issued a determination declaring you permanently ineligible from participation in college athletics, based on a sustained pattern of improper gambling activity during your collegiate career at three different universities.”
