ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WTVY) -Former Enterprise High School standout and New England Patriots cornerback Marcus Jones returned to his alma mater to speak with students about financial literacy.
Jones, an NFL All-Pro, partnered with All In Credit Union to teach students how to game plan for success.
Jones told high schoolers it is never too early to develop smart financial habits.
“Being able to have someone that’s been in the same class, made it to a high level, however, it doesn’t matter how much money you make, you know, you have to live below your means,” Jones said. “And that’s something very important. So being able to be a role model in this city, in this town, means a lot to me and being able to educate the kids through the situations of my mistakes and then also my things where I did good at is very important.”
The message focused on teaching young people how to take charge of their future through financial education.
“It doesn’t matter how much money that you make when it comes down to it,” Jones said. “You know, if you’re not financial, you know, educated, things can definitely make a quick turn.”
Jones also spoke about the importance of reading financial statements, understanding interest and taxes, and handling credit cards.
All In Credit Union echoed that message by relaunching its enhanced youth accounts and other efforts to teach financial literacy to children.
“Being financially responsible will change their whole lives,” Kathy Scarbrough with All In Credit Union said. “It will mean that they can start building wealth earlier. They can enjoy things more. And they can worry a whole lot less.”
