The past 24 hours have been eventful for Arsenal from a transfer rumour perspective.

There has been much talk about the Gunners' possible signings this summer, with the window having officially opened last Monday.

Manager Mikel Arteta, after his team's Champions League final loss to Paris Saint-Germain last month, spoke candidly about where his squad needs strengthening. This, combined with Josh Kroenke's admission that they cannot be satisfied with winning the Premier League this season, point towards a summer of heavy expenditure.

This is anticipated to rival last year's club-record £250million outlay. The objective this time, however, is understood to be buying three to five higher quality players.

To facilitate this, sporting director Andrea Berta must offload players as well. football.london now examines two of the most recent transfer developments concerning the English champions.

Martinelli future in doubt

Gabriel Martinelli is reportedly considering leaving Arsenal this summer. The Times reports the Gunners star is keen to explore a move abroad amid growing speculation that Arsenal wish to sign a left winger.

It's well known that Arteta believes the left wing position requires the most pressing attention during the transfer window, given that neither Martinelli nor Leandro Trossard possess the elite quality required to take the side to the next level.

The Brazilian still has 12 months remaining on his contract, which includes an option for a further year. He was previously linked with a move to Bayern Munich before they brought in Luis Diaz last summer.

Martinelli, 25, would command a higher transfer fee than Trossard owing to his age and may therefore be the first to depart. He has spent seven campaigns in N5, netting 62 times in 278 appearances.

Piero Hincapie of Arsenal

Piero Hincapie is reportedly on Real Madrid's radar following Jose Mourinho's appointment. Mourinho, who has already brought in four new signings for Los Blancos, is now looking to hijack the Ecuadorian defender's permanent move to the Emirates Stadium.

Despite already securing Marc Cucurella’s signature, ESPN claim Real Madrid are seeking a left-footed centre-back who can also operate at left-back. Hincapie, 24, matches that description and the report states Real have made an inquiry.

Arsenal brought Hincapie in on a season-long loan deal from Bayer Leverkusen last summer, with an obligation to buy for £45m. While a permanent move has yet to be announced, it is widely expected he will return from the World Cup as an Arsenal player.

Hincapie ended his maiden season in England as Arteta's first-choice left-back. He featured 25 times in their league title-winning campaign and made a further 14 appearances in cup competitions.
