Premier League star who won MOTM at Emirates will be Man Utd’s first-choice if Fernandes joins Spurs

Manchester United will reportedly turn their attention to Bournemouth’s Alex Scott if Tottenham Hotspur win the race for Mateus Fernandes, as per MailSport.

As things stand, Spurs appear to be the only club in the race willing to match West Ham’s £85 million price tag.

United view Scott as ideal Fernandes alternative

Personal terms would not be an issue between Fernandes and the Red Devils, but it will boil down to how much INEOS are prepared to shell out, as the quoted fee has been deemed too high.

Alas, Scott poses as another option on the list this summer.

While Bournemouth have no desire to part ways with the young talent, he may feel obliged to consider his options if offers come in, having spent the last three years at the Vitality Stadium.

In addition, he would be navigating his first season without Andoni Iraola in the dugout, and it remains to be seen if Bournemouth will be able to recreate their stellar displays under a new manager.

Scott: The state of play

The Cherries are actively working behind the scenes to negotiate a new deal with Scott, one that would see a release clause added to his terms.

His existing deal runs until 2028, so they’re under no pressure to facilitate a transfer unless the 22-year-old, whom they paid £25m for when signing him from Bristol City, hands in a request or attempts to force a move.

Scott has accumulated 89 appearances for the Dorset outfit in total, 80 of which came in the Premier League.

Of the 37 top-flight games he featured in last term, he was deployed from the off in 34 of them, and returned three goals and an assist in his 2,860 minutes of action.

Perhaps Scott’s most notable contribution came in Bournemouth’s shock 2-1 triumph away to eventual champions Arsenal, when he finished off a stellar run and chance before being named the Man of the Match at full-time.
