Newcastle United transfer boost as Manchester United left 'baffled' over claims

Manchester United’s interest in Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall has been played down.

The Red Devils are in the market for a left-back this summer, and it’s been widely suggested that Hall is among those under consideration.

Hall joined Newcastle from Chelsea in the summer of 2023, initially on loan before completing a permanent £28million move. The 21-year-old is now widely regarded as one of the Premier League’s best left-backs, despite being left out of England’s World Cup squad.

To that end, Hall being linked with Man United came as little surprise. It has, however, come as a surprise to the Old Trafford club, who, according to the Daily Mail’s Chief Sports Reporter Mike Keegan, have no interest in the player.

“It is an area they are looking at but then on the flip side of that, there was a story about Lewis Hall from Newcastle... no one at United knows where that has come from,” Keegan told The United Stand. “They have no interest in Lewis Hall.

As it stands, I’m told there is literally bafflement at United, they don’t know where that has come from.”

Newcastle have little intention of losing Hall, who was one of their standout performers during what was a difficult last season.

Hall gained international praise for keeping Lamine Yamal quiet in Newcastle’s Champions League last 16 first-leg draw with Barcelona at St James’ Park in March, while his World Cup snub led to heavy criticism of manager Thomas Tuchel.
