'Thank you' - Newcastle United departure confirmed as Everton complete recruitment move

Slater joined the Magpies from Blackburn Rovers in May 2023 and was notably tasked with identifying emerging talent in South Korea during the club’s pre-season tour last year.

After just over three years on Tyneside, Slater has made the move to Merseyside, where he has taken up the position of senior recruitment analyst at Everton.

“I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Senior Recruitment Analyst at Everton Football Club,” Slater announced on LinkedIn.

Before that, Slater bid a farewell to the Magpies.

He wrote: “Today marks my final day at Newcastle United after an incredible 3+ years in their recruitment department.

“Extremely grateful and fortunate for the opportunities and memories I’ve experienced at such a fantastic football club.

“A special thank you to everyone who I’ve worked closely with across the club. Looking forward to a new challenge in the near future!”

What is a positional analyst?

Advertising the role earlier this year, Newcastle wrote: “As a Positional Analyst, you’ll deliver detailed video and live analysis on players in key positions across assigned markets. Working closely with our Lead Video Analyst, data team and Head of Technical Scouting, you’ll build clear, objective evidence that supports recruitment strategy and future transfer planning.

“Your work will inform real decisions. Your detail will make a difference.

“Analyse prospective target players using video, data and live observation where required

“Create evidence‑based clips and reports aligned to our positional profiles and recruitment framework

“Identify new potential targets and ensure they move quickly through the recruitment workflow

“Use industry‑standard software (including Wyscout, Hudl and Sportscode) to support clear insight

“Upload and manage reports and presentations across internal digital platforms

“Work flexibly to meet deadlines and the demands of the football calendar.”
