The news about Nicolas Jackson and his probable exit from Chelsea has taken a new turn. The Senegalese striker will stay at Stamford Bridge for now. He aims to impress the new manager Xabi Alonso with his skills this season.
Nicolas Jackson to stay at Stamford Bridge
Jackson will return to Stamford Bridge after a year-long stint with Bayern Munich under a loan spell. As reported by Football Insider, the 25-year-old striker aims to impress Alonso. The former Spanish legend joined the Blues as the new manager for the upcoming season.
Jackson joined the Blues in 2023. He was acquired by the West London club from Villarreal for an amount of £32 million. He has an eight-year-long contract with Chelsea. Before joining Chelsea, Jackson played for Villarreal between 2021 and 2023.
Jackson’s stats for the 2025-26 season, as per FOTMOB:
Competitions Matches Goals Assists
Bundesliga 23 8 1
DFB Pokal 1 0 0
UEFA Champions League 10 3 2
FIFA Club World Cup 2025 3 0 1
Benefits of Jackson’s decision to stay with Chelsea
In a way, Jackson’s decision to not leave Chelsea is great news. The club needs a stronger forward lineup for the next season. Team manager Alonso is already working in this direction. Players like Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen are sought by the West London club.
Nicolas Jackson performed well individually for Bayern Munich in the 2025-26 season. The German club had a dream run last year. They won the Bundesliga, the DFB Pokal, and the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup without much trouble. Bayern Munich made it to the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League. They also made it to the quarterfinals of the 2025 Club World Cup.
On the other hand, Chelsea had a wild ride last year. The Blues finished 10th in the Premier League. They were also eliminated in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League. However, the Blues made it to the 2025-26 FA Cup final. They also won their second Club World Cup title with the 2025 edition. Additionally, the West London club steamrolled Paris Saint-Germain in the finals 3-0, avenging their Champions League elimination.
What’s next for Nicolas Jackson?
Jackson is currently focusing on the ongoing FIFA World Cup. He is a part of the Senegal football team placed in group I against teams like France, Norway, and Iraq. Senegal lost both their group matches to France and Norway by 1-3 and 2-3 respectively. However, they still have a chance. If they beat Iraq by a huge margin, they can make it to the knockouts on the basis of the best third ranked teams from each group.
If Jackson wants to make it big in world football, he needs to work on his health as well as his discipline. The Senegalese striker suffered a serious hamstring injury in February 2025. This kept him out of action for a while. Additionally, he was also shown a red card in one of the Bundesliga games during the 2025-26 season. He needs to overcome these problems as soon as possible.
Chelsea is undergoing a massive transformation. Xabi Alonso wouldn’t like to repeat the mistakes of the previous season. He also wants to leave a solid impression in his first season as the team’s head coach. If Nicolas Jackson impresses him with his skills this season, he could get a chance to cement his position in the West London club as a reliable striker.
