‘The word coming from the club…’: Ornstein confirms MUFC have joined Arsenal in pursuit of surprise midfield candidate

David Ornstein has confirmed that both Arsenal and Manchester United are admirers of Alex Scott this summer.

The Bournemouth starlet oversaw an eye-catching 2025/2026 campaign, which culminated with the club qualifying for Europe for the first-ever time in their history.

Why United are turning their attention to Alex Scott

Indeed, the Cherries will be plying their trade in the Europa League when 2026/2027 gets underway, though it remains to be seen if Scott will be there to play his part.

Potential approaches from the current league champions and the 20-time champions of England may prove difficult to turn down, especially considering Scott will be navigating his first season at the Vitality Stadium without highly-regarded manager Andoni Iraola.

While United have yet to materialise their interest, reports have suggested that Scott would be next in line to pursue if they miss out on Mateus Fernandes.

Fernandes is being targeted by Tottenham Hotspur, who seem to be the only side willing to meet West Ham’s £80-85 million price tag.

Scott 80 6 4,621

Fernandes 72 13 5,948

MailSport has suggested that the Englishman could cost a more feasible fee in the region of £60m, but Ornstein reckons he’s off-limits irrespective of what bids may come in before deadline day.

What did Ornstein have to say about Scott?

Speaking on The Athletic Podcast, the transfer expert said of Scott: “He’s been discussed at Arsenal, [and] at Manchester United, and no doubt elsewhere.

“But it’s particularly difficult because Bournemouth have no intention of selling him. That’s the word coming from the club. Even if it was an astronomical offer, they are adamant that he is staying put for the first season, at least, under Marco Rose.

“His contract is starting to wind down, and I’m sure they would like to renew it, but if there’s a possibility of the move, I’m not sure he would. We’ll have to see how that develops. But yeah, Scott is a very interesting case, for sure.”
