Mateus Fernandes Alternative Could Be Available For£60M But Man Utd Will Have To See Off Arsenal Challenge

Bournemouth would consider selling Man Utd target Alex Scott for £60m, according to reports.

It was originally claimed that the Cherries would hold out for a fee in the region of £80m, but the Daily Mail say that the 23-year-old could be on the market for a slightly lower amount.

Scott is on the shortlist of midfield targets that Director of Football Jason Wilcox and manager Michael Carrick are interested in pursuing.

Brighton’s Carlos Baleba and Fulham’s Sander Berge are also names under consideration, along with the top option: West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes.

What is the latest on Man Utd’s pursuit of Fernandes?

The Red Devils have held talks with the 21-year-old’s representatives, but they have yet to table an official bid. There is thought to be a reluctance to match West Ham’s asking price, which could be as high as £85m.

Tottenham’s interest has further complicated matters. The more clubs pursue Fernandes, the more likely the Hammers are to dig their heels in and demand that their valuation is met in full.

Getting player buy-in would help but it appears Fernandes is open to joining any team that agrees a transfer fee with West Ham.

Scott has other suitors too

While it seems as if United could snap up the Bournemouth midfielder for less than Fernandes, the Daily Mail report that Arsenal are also keen.

If the Gunners do make a move for Scott, there is a danger that Michael Carrick’s side could be left empty-handed in their pursuit of a new midfielder once again.

As the deals for Fernandes and Scott are unlikely to be straightforward, it would not be a surprise if the club pivot back to a previous top target – Aurelien Tchouameni. It has been suggested that the Frenchman may be sold by Real Madrid over the coming weeks.
