England endured a frustrating night as they were held to a goalless draw by Ghana in their second World Cup finals group stage game on Tuesday.
Former Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon has been blasted for his performance in England’s goalless draw with Ghana on Tuesday night.
Gordon saw off competition from Manchester United star Marcus Rashford to secure a place in the Three Lions’ opening World Cup finals group stage game with Croatia last week - but struggled to make an impact as Thomas Tuchel’s men claimed a 4-2 win in Dallas. Despite his underwhelming display, the winger retained his place in the starting eleven for Tuesday night’s game against Ghana as England produced an ineffective display despite enjoying the vast majority of possession throughout the game.

Gordon was replaced by Rashford for the final eight minutes of the game and the latter produced some eye-catching moments during the closing stages as England pushed for a decisive goal that remained out of reach. The former Magpies winger’s performance has drawn criticism from Barcelona fans after he completed a big money move to the reigning La Liga champions earlier this month - and questions have been asked of Gordon by two former Premier League stars.
Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfastfollowing England's 0-0 draw, former Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor said of Gordon: "If I'm Barcelona, I'm checking if the ink's dry. £70m for Gordon, Newcastle must be laughing. He wasn't great last season and he was poor in the first game. How he started and lasted as long as he did, the manager was going crazy on that left-hand side during the game. He just got the ball and looked like he had no tricks. He had a quick full-back against him and he had no ideas."
Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie O’Hara also questioned the former Magpies forward, saying: "They (Ghana) had a low block, compact, tight, the wingers have got to win you the game.Every time it went to Gordon, he did nothing with it. He's a good player, I'm not trying to dig him out here, but Rashford's a better player. He made three things happen in 10 minutes."
