Liverpool have reportedly shown interest in Mateus Fernandes this summer, with the West Ham United midfielder also attracting attention from Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Reds have already been active in the transfer market, completing the signing of Victor Munoz from Osasuna in a deal worth £34.5million.

The move is expected to be the first of several as Liverpool continue to reshape their squad ahead of pre-season, which will include a training camp in the United States under Andoni Iraola.

Munoz could be the first arrival in what promises to be a busy window at Anfield, although it remains unclear who else may follow.

Fernandes has not been strongly linked with a move to Liverpool previously this summer, but Fabrizio Romano has suggested the club have made initial contact regarding the 21-year-old’s availability.

Romano has indicated that Liverpool have made a “call” to West Ham to enquire about the player’s situation, underlining growing interest in the midfielder ahead of a potentially competitive transfer battle.

“I will tell you something that was not so public in the recent days and weeks,” Romano said on the Born ‘N Red YouTube channel.

“Liverpool made a call two weeks ago to understand the situation Mateus Fernandes at West Ham, to understand the price and conditions, but they didn’t return with any bid or any official conversation.

“But they made a call two weeks ago, I can guarantee that. Tottenham and Manchester United are busy with a deal, so there are so many clubs involved. The player is going to be expensive, more than £85million. It means Liverpool are working on midfielders.”

According to Sky Sports News, Tottenham are weighing up a bid for the West Ham midfielder, while Manchester United are also monitoring the situation.

Spurs are prepared to offer around £85million for the Portugal international, who is keen on a Premier League return following West Ham’s relegation.

Manchester United were previously understood to have valued Fernandes at around £60million, but may now be prepared to offer more as they monitor developments involving other clubs closely.

We will have to wait and see whether Liverpool make a formal bid for Fernandes, as the Reds have mostly been linked with forward signings so far this summer, with RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande among those on the club’s radar.

In midfield, Curtis Jones’ future has also come under scrutiny, with Inter Milan expressing interest in the 25-year-old. However, Liverpool have rejected a £21.7million bid from the Serie A side over the weekend.

The offer fell well short of Liverpool’s valuation, with the club believed to be seeking closer to £35million for Jones this summer.
