There is still work to be done in the market over the coming month. Liverpool’s capture of former Osasuna forward Victor Munoz came as a surprise, with the Reds hijacking Newcastle United’s move for the player in a deal worth around £35 million.

Following his arrival, Liverpool remain in pursuit of Ivory Coast forward Yan Diomande and are stepping up their interest in the Bundesliga attacker.

Diomande is not the only young talent on Liverpool’s radar, with Morocco international Ayyoub Bouaddi also admired. West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes is another name being considered.

Meanwhile, several senior departures have already been confirmed, with Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, Ibrahima Konate and Rhys Williams all set to leave the squad this summer.

Williams was part of Liverpool’s FA Youth Cup-winning squad in 2019 and made his senior debut under Jurgen Klopp the following year.

He went on to make 19 appearances in the 2020–21 campaign, stepping in during an injury crisis in defence as Liverpool secured a third-place Premier League finish and Champions League qualification.

Williams posted on social media: “From signing as a nine-year-old boy to leaving as a 25-year-old man, this club has let me fulfil things that dreams are made of. It’s been an honour to wear this shirt, rub shoulders with legends and play for the greatest set of fans in the world.

“Thank you to all the players, staff and everyone who’s had a part to play along the way. I will be forever grateful to have represented this club. Thank you, Liverpool. YNWA.”

In a club statement, Liverpool said: “Everybody at LFC would like to thank Rhys for his contribution and wish him well for the future.”

Williams also had loan spells at Kidderminster Harriers, Swansea City, Blackpool, Aberdeen, Port Vale and Morecambe.

According to The Athletic’s James Pearce, Rhys Williams is currently on trial at MLS side New York Red Bulls. If Williams’ trial proves successful, he is likely to sign a deal with New York Red Bulls.
