The Premier League champions sounded out Rogers earlier on in the window, having been in contact with intermediaries to discuss a potential deal.
While talks haven’t yet started between the two clubs, Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta have been in discussions about how best to improve the squad that earned the club’s first Premier League title victory for 22 years.
Rogers, an England teammate currently on World Cup duty in the USA, is a close friend of Gunners stars Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, and Eberechi Eze, with the former seemingly encouraging Arteta to move for the Villa forward prior to departing for the tournament.
However, any deal for Rogers may cost up to a mouthwatering sum of £100m, although the player is reportedly keen on making the switch to the Emirates.
If Rogers does ultimately make the move to north London, the transfer could cast doubt on the futures of Eze and club captain Martin Odegaard. The Norway skipper, who is enjoying a winning start to his World Cup campaign alongside Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, played limited minutes last season, having been hampered by injuries.
Eze, who only signed for Arsenal last summer, remains under the cloud of Arteta and his coaching staff struggling to find a consistent role for the former Crystal Palace star.
Any move for Rogers may hinge on outgoings. Arsenal are not in a hurry to sell their more valuable assets this summer, but the Premier League’s new squad cost ratio rules may see that logic turned on its head if Rogers does come in. The likes of Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli could be sold to comply with Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
The Gunners also hold an interest in Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez. The Argentine was the subject of a €150m bid earlier in the window from Real Madrid, which was swiftly rejected by Atleti. Viktor Gyokeres has had interest from the Spanish giants, which could see the Sweden striker head to the Spanish capital as part of a swap deal for Alvarez.
