Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly reached a verbal agreement with West Ham United United for Portuguese midfielder Mateus Fernandes.
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium club have been looking to sign the Hammers star for a while now and it appears they have finally pipped Manchester United to his services.
Fernandes is set to leave West Ham this summer following relegation to the Championship, and a move to Spurs is now inching closer.
Tottenham midfielder Roberto De Zerbi wants reinforcements in the middle of the park and the 21-year-old fits the bill.
The Italian was keen to retain the services of Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha after his impressive loan spell, but a deal did not work out.
The Lilywhites have now gone for Fernandes, in a deal which could be up to £80 million.
His arrival will see Spurs sell Lucas Bergvall, who has asked to leave and is not short of suitors in the Premier League and across Europe.
Tottenham have already signed four players this summer, with Martin Dubravka, Jan Paul van Hecke, Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi joining the club.
