Marcus Rashford’s future is reportedly making Manchester United’s plans for the summer transfer window more uncertain. United have a busy few months ahead of them in the transfer market as they look to strengthen their squad for the new season.
Atalanta star Ederson is close to becoming the first new signing for United this summer, with the Reds already agreeing a £35million initial fee with the Serie A club, along with £3.8million more in add-ons.
West Ham star Mateus Fernandes is a player who United have been heavily linked with signing for some time, with Tottenham Hotspur, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain also said to have an interest in the Portugal international.
Fernandes’ West Ham teammate, Crysencio Summerville, has also been mentioned as a potential target for United this summer.
The Hammers are reported to value Fernandes at around £85million, and now there has been a fresh update on his future, which also includes a mention about Rashford’s current situation.
According to the Daily Mail, Rashford’s future has “complicated” United’s pursuit of reinforcements this summer, particularly on the left side of the forward line.
Rashford spent last season on loan at Barcelona, scoring 14 goals and providing 14 assists, but the La Liga club opted not to sign the 28-year-old on a permanent basis despite having a clause worth £26million.
Because Rashford remains under contract at United until 2028, there is still uncertainty over where the England international will be playing his football next season.
Barcelona signed Anthony Gordon on a permanent deal worth around £69million, and are reported to be open to signing Rashford on another loan, something United aren’t prepared to sanction.
The report also claims that United remain in talks with West Ham about the possibility of signing Fernandes, but have yet to advance as far as to submit an official offer for the 21-year-old.
With United having already agreed to potentially spend close to £39million on Ederson, there is also the possibility they could agree a deal to sign Fernandes, who may end up costing around £85million.

As a result, that is potentially £124million worth of business that United could look to finalise over the next few weeks, but it’s unclear if the uncertainty around Rashford’s future will continue to play a role.
Rashford is currently with the England squad for this summer’s World Cup and is expected to return to United for pre-season training as things stand.
