"World-class"star has now decided to stay at Man Utd next season - Ben Jacobs

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has decided to stay for at least another season amid interest from the Saudi Pro League, according to talkSPORT journalist Ben Jacobs.

The Portuguese superstar was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia last summer. Al-Hilal were immensely interested in signing him, but the playmaker eventually declined the offer.

Fernandes currently has a £56 million release clause in his United contract, valid for non-English clubs, but he has already told his teammates and close circle that he intends to remain.

A no-brainer decision for Fernandes

The 31-year-old, described as ‘world-class‘ by Casemiro, started last season as a central midfielder under manager Ruben Amorim. His creativity was restricted in a 3-4-2-1 formation. He returned to his familiar number 10 role after the Portuguese’s exit in early January.

The former Sporting CP star was the best player in the Premier League after the turn of the year. He dazzled in a 4-2-3-1 system under manager Michael Carrick and set the competition assist record for a single season (21).

Fernandes’ 30-goal contributions were instrumental in United finishing third in the league. The club secured more points than any side after Carrick’s arrival in January and will be eyeing a title push next season.

Hence, it is a no-brainer decision for Fernandes to continue at United next term. The club added significant quality to their attack last summer, and the focus is now on building an elite midfield to boost their league title pursuit.

Fernandes has a year left on his contract with a 12-month extension clause. He does not appear in a hurry to sign a new deal. He may assess United’s summer transfer business and the start to next season before considering a renewal.
