Liverpool may well be getting closer to a deal for Yan Diomande, having stepped up its pursuit of the winger.

The Reds made it clear to RB Leipzig that it would be willing to do a deal at around $115 million (€100 million) last week. The latest reports suggest that the offer has been rejected, with Liverpool now weighing up whether to launch a second and improved proposal.

The good news is that there are new suggestions that Diomande is angling for a move, while there is also more encouragement emerging over one of the names touted as a potential alternative option.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the latest transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds.

Yan Diomande (RB Leipzig)

Diomande "definitely" wants to move this summer, according to the Daily Mail's Lewis Steele, who also suggested there may be some frustration from the player that a transfer is taking longer than expected.

It's claimed that the 19-year-old's camp anticipated a deal would be done quickly, but is now resigned to the idea that it could drag on until after the World Cup.

RB Leipzig is sticking to its $148 million (€130M) valuation, but may be resigned to having to sell Diomande, while Steele is adamant that Liverpool will get a deal across the line, saying: "I really do, I do think this one will happen."

Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.

Liverpool.com says: You do get the impression, based on the various hints that Diomande has dropped recently, that he is keen on a transfer this summer. It seems like it's really just a question of whether Liverpool is prepared to pay $148 million for him.

Considering what we've seen at the World Cup, you can't blame Leipzig for setting the price so high. The worry, if Liverpool does indeed go for it, is whether that would have a negative impact on the other areas of the squad that need sorting, but Diomande looks like he'll be worth every penny.

Bradley Barcola (PSG)

Negotiations between Paris Saint-Germain and Bradley Barcola are "completely on standby," according to Fabrizio Romano.

It's suggested that this could yet open the door for one of Liverpool or Arsenal, with both clubs said to have the French international on their shortlists as they look for new wingers.

Liverpool is claimed to be keeping a close eye on Barcola, having also shortlisted him last year. What's more, Romano describes the situation as "absolutely open", depending on what PSG wants to do.

Liverpool.com says: Having Barcola as a potential backup plan if a deal can't be struck for Diomande doesn't sound too bad at all. Of course, you'd expect dealing with PSG might be a little harder than Leipzig.

Diomande should absolutely remain the primary target, even if Barcola were to be made available in the meantime, but it will be fascinating to see what happens with the Frenchman, considering he has dropped down the pecking order with the European champions.
