On June 18th, Liverpool confirmed their agreement with CA Osasuna to sign Víctor Muñoz.
The Premier League side snatched the Spain international from Newcastle United’s clutches.
Later that day, the new Liverpool signing suffered a setback while working on his recovery with the national team.
The Spanish FA [RFEF] medical team stated: ‘During the planned and individualised recovery process, an additional muscle injury has occurred, which will delay his return to competition. His availability for the upcoming matches will depend on the evolution of his symptoms.’
Spain didn’t specify the nature of his injury or when he will be available for selection again.
The winger initially sustained had returned to training before the clash against Cape Verde, before suffering another setback.
Liverpool player working individually
Thursday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo reports Spain held their final training session at Baylor School on Wednesday.
La Roja will travel to Guadalajara to face Uruguay in the last group stage tie on Saturday [UK time]. The new Liverpool player won’t be available for this clash.
Víctor Muñoz didn’t join the rest of the group for full training and continues to focus on his recovery.
Mundo states the 22-year-old ‘did some running and interval training, taking another step in his training plan’.
Another Spanish newspaper, AS, has a report titled: ‘Pampering and therapy for Víctor Muñoz.’
The Reds winger hasn’t been fully fit to represent his country at the World Cup. So far, he has been working on his recovery.
Víctor Muñoz
Muñoz has received support from his teammates and the rest of the national team staff. AS claims it was ‘significant to see’ him work with Spain psychologist Javier López Vallejo, who ‘shows him affection’.
His aim is to return to full training as soon as possible and there are expectations for him to return soon. That won’t be against Uruguay.
Liverpool keeping close watch
Andoni Iraola’s side will be in regular contact with Spain’s medical staff to keep up to date with his recovery process.
Liverpool will hope Víctor Muñoz doesn’t rush himself back and completes a full recovery, to avoid any further setbacks.
