Liverpool supporters have every reason to be excited about the future.
Florian Wirtz has arrived as one of the most gifted attacking midfielders in world football.
Alexander Isak has all the attributes required to become one of Europe’s elite forwards.
Andoni Iraola brings fresh ideas and a style of football that appears perfectly suited to both players.
Yet there remains one reality Liverpool cannot ignore.
The club still needs to replace Mohamed Salah.
Some Players Cannot Simply Be Replaced
The first thing that needs to be said is obvious.
Liverpool will never find another Mohamed Salah.
Players who score goals at his level, remain available as consistently as he did and perform under pressure year after year simply do not exist in abundance.
Trying to find a direct replacement would be impossible.
But replacing his production is essential.
Salah Was Liverpool’s Attack
For years, Liverpool’s attack was built around Salah.
When Liverpool needed a goal, he delivered.
When Liverpool needed inspiration, he provided it.
When Liverpool needed consistency, he offered it.
His numbers were extraordinary:
● Goals
● Assists
● Chance creation
● Ball progression
● Match-winning moments
Everything flowed through him.
And that influence cannot disappear without consequences.
Wirtz and Isak Cannot Do It Alone
Many supporters believe the arrivals of Wirtz and Isak solve Liverpool’s attacking problems.
They certainly help.
Massively.
But asking two players to immediately replace everything Salah contributed would be unfair.
Wirtz is primarily a creator.
Isak is primarily a goalscorer.
Salah was both.
Liverpool therefore need more than just those two.
They need additional attacking threats capable of sharing the burden.
Modern Football Requires Multiple Sources of Goals
The best teams in Europe do not rely on one player.
Manchester City spread goals across the team.
Real Madrid do the same.
Paris Saint-Germain have several players capable of deciding matches.
Liverpool need to move in that direction.
Rather than finding “the next Salah”, they need to build an attack where goals arrive from multiple areas.
That means:
● Isak scoring regularly
● Wirtz creating and contributing goals
● Gakpo improving
● Wide players adding goals
● Midfielders contributing more consistently
Why Another Attacker Still Makes Sense
This is one reason Liverpool continue to be linked with attacking players.
Supporters sometimes ask why the club are still monitoring wingers when they already have Wirtz and Isak.
The answer is simple.
Replacing Salah requires numbers.
Depth.
Competition.
And multiple players capable of producing decisive moments.
One signing rarely solves the loss of a player who contributed so much for so long.
Liverpool Must Think Long-Term
Perhaps the biggest challenge is psychological.
For years, Liverpool always knew Salah was there.
That safety net no longer exists.
The club now needs to create a new attacking identity.
One built around several stars rather than one superstar.
That transition will take time.
But it must happen.
The Next Evolution
Liverpool’s future still looks incredibly bright.
Wirtz could become one of the world’s best players.
Isak could become one of the Premier League’s most feared strikers.
Young talents continue to emerge.
The foundations are there.
But none of that changes one simple fact.
Replacing Mohamed Salah remains Liverpool’s biggest challenge.
Not because they need another Salah.
Because nobody can be another Salah.
They simply need enough quality, goals and creativity across the squad to ensure his departure does not leave a void too large to fill.
That is the task facing Liverpool now.
And how successfully they complete it may determine whether the club’s next great era truly begins.
