Alexander Isak claims he isn't even thinking about his difficult debut Liverpool season anymore and is now "in a good place" following his encouraging start to the World Cup.

Isak scored and created two goals in Sweden's 5-1 win over Tunisia before assisting his country's consolation in the 5-1 thumping against Holland on Saturday.

It's in stark contrast to the striker's dismal debut campaign for Liverpool following his British record £125million move from Newcastle United last September, with the 26-year-old managing just five goal contributions - four strikes and one assist - in 22 appearances having been hampered by fitness and injury issues.

Isak's outing against Tunisia was his first 90-minute appearance in more than a year with Sweden still hopeful of qualification ahead of their final group game against Japan in the early hours of Friday morning.

And speaking ahead of the game in Sweden's World Cup base in Dallas, he said: "Club team and national team are two very separate things. When I joined the national team, I had absolutely no thoughts about anything other than Sweden and the World Cup.

"It's clear that it's nice to have a good World Cup, and you want to do it even better all the time. I feel like I'm in a good place now. And hopefully I can continue to do well.

"Now I feel good, very good. But it's hard to put your finger on what your maximum is, you never know. But I have nothing to complain about right now when it comes to my physical status."

Isak has shown signs of developing a partnership with fellow forward Viktor Gyokeres of Arsenal, in which the Liverpool man is playing a more withdrawn role.

And he added: "It's felt good. It's worked well in the matches. It's clear that you're a bit more of a playmaker, playing others forward instead of being the one making the deep runs yourself. But I'm enjoying it there.

"We are two talented players who want the best for the team. We get along really well, just like the whole team."
