The Arsenal transfer news about Oscar Mingueza has gained buzz. The Spanish defender may join the North London club for free.
Arsenal to get Mingueza for free?
As reported by Football London, Arsenal are looking for a cheap but credible alternative to Ben White. The English defender is currently recovering from a knee injury, which made him miss out on the remainder of the 2025-26 season, including the current FIFA World Cup. Moreover, Mingueza’s contract is expiring after the 2025-26 season. This is why the Gunners are aiming for the 27-year-old Mingueza.
Mingueza currently plays for Spanish club Celta Vigo. He joined the club in 2022. Before that, Mingueza was an essential part of the Barcelona setup. He joined the youth academy way back in 2007. He made his debut for the B team in 2018. Subsequently, Mingueza joined the senior team in 2020. He represented Barcelona from 2020 to 2022.
Mingueza’s stats for the 2025-26 season, as per FOTMOB:

La Liga 34 4 99 42 9
Copa del Rey 2 1 – – –
UEFA Europa League 11 1 31 20 3
Benefits of Oscar Mingueza’s potential Arsenal transfer
If Mingueza joins the North London club, it would be a bonus for the team’s defense lineup. Team manager Mikel Arteta wants to maintain the magical momentum of the 2025-26 season. He wants the Gunners to dominate European football for the next few seasons.
Arsenal won back the Premier League title after 22 years. The North London club also made it to the finals of EFL Cup and the UEFA Champions League. Even though they didn’t win the FA Cup, the Gunners managed to give a respectable performance. They progressed to the quarterfinals. Arsenal lost the quarter-finals to Southampton 2-1.
Meanwhile, Mingueza played well individually for Celta Vigo. The Spanish club finished sixth in 2025-26 La Liga. They also made it to the quarterfinals of the 2025-26 UEFA Europa League. Celta Vigo lost the quarterfinals to German club SC Freiburg by a scoreline of 6-1 on aggregate.
The road ahead for Oscar Mingueza
Mingueza is currently focused on securing his transfer deal for the next season. He doesn’t need to worry much about his disciplinary record. Likewise, he also has a near-perfect record in terms of fitness concerns. The Spanish right-back didn’t experience any major injuries last season. The last time he suffered a huge blow was in September 2024, when he sustained a hamstring injury. If he wants to make it big in club **football**next season, Mingueza has to overcome minor inconsistencies.
Mingueza is not a part of the Spanish football squad in the current World Cup. The right-back was excluded from the final 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, announced by manager Luis de la Fuente on May 25. However, the right-back is hopeful of returning to the Spanish team soon. He was a part of the Spanish team that won the silver medal in the 2025 UEFA Nations League finals. He was also a part of the Spanish squad that clinched the silver medal in men’s football at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics [held in 2021 due to COVID-19 pandemic].
Arsenal has had a dream run last year. Mikel Arteta knows that it won’t be easy to sustain the same momentum next season. He also knows that he cannot afford to repeat the same mistakes that turned Liverpool’s fortunes upside down. If Arteta wants to avoid this for Arsenal, he needs strong, reliable players in his side. That’s where the experience of Oscar Mingueza comes in handy. It remains to be seen if the Spanish defender agrees to join Arsenal or not.
