Arsenal legend Alan Smith thinks Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott is “ready” to make the step up to one of the ‘Big Six’ clubs.
The Gunners and Manchester United are both believed to be interested in the 22-year-old, and speaking exclusively to Gooner News (courtesy of Best Betting Sites UK), Smith said:

“I think he’s one of those players that could certainly make the step up into one of the big sides. I don’t know him personally in terms of his character and his temperament, but he looks like somebody who, certainly, technically, ability-wise, can step up. I think he’s ready for that now.”
“But, Bournemouth, are they going to want to sell their best players? I know they’ve bought and sold really well over the years, but Marco Rose coming in, talk of Kroupi Jr going. He won’t want to lose the heart of his team before he’s even started. But for Alex Scott, he might think now it’s a really good time to move.”
How much would Scott cost?
As Smith points out, Bournemouth will be reluctant to sell one of their best players. Speaking on The Athletic Football podcast this week, respected journalist David Ornstein said that the Cherries are not prepared to let the midfielder leave under any circumstances.
However, Scott’s contract situation is an issue for Marco Rose’s team. He is closing in on the final two years of his contract, and if he refuses to extend his deal, they may have to reluctantly consider a sale soon before his value depreciates.
Reports suggest £60m could be enough to land Scott, but others have placed the asking price closer to £80m.
Arsenal are looking at several midfield targets
The Gunners were linked with West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes earlier in the transfer window, but they have subsequently moved on to other options.
In addition to Scott, it has been reported that the club have contacted the agents of Roma’s Manu Kone, Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Larsson, Lille’s Ayyoub Bouaddi and two others.
