1. City sold Alvarez to Atletico Madrid in 2024 for a fee of £64.4m that could potentially rise to £81.5m if specific clauses are met. Despite the World Cup winner doing well for the Blues, he wanted a new challenge.
2. Erling Haaland was, and still is, the first choice at the Etihad Stadium and Alvarez's game time suffered because of it.
3. Alvarez scored 20 goals in all competitions last season, following on from the 29 he bagged in his debut campaign for Atletico Madrid.
4. This has led to interest from rival clubs with both Barcelona and Real Madrid keen on his signature. Real confirmed recently they had submitted a £130m bid for the striker.
5. Atletico rejected this bid with the Spanish giants pointing their city rivals to Alvarez's release clause, valued at a whopping £431m.
6. This week, Alvarez confirmed, despite Atletico's firm stance on his future, he would be keen to leave following the World Cup.
7. "Honestly, I don't know," Alvarez told reporters. "I don't think this is the right time to talk, but I can't hide either. I try to be an honest person. I've spoken with the people at the club, with those I needed to speak to. I think a transfer is the best solution for everyone, and I want to fulfil my dream."
8. If Alvarez were to be sold for the £130m that Real bid, City would bank between £4-7m thanks to a 10 per cent of any profit made sell-on clause included in the 2024 transfer.
