Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a move for impressive young Benfica and Norway winger Andreas Schjelderup in the summer transfer window.
The Reds continue to be linked with wide players left, right and centre, with a recent update on Yan Diomande provided by journalist Lewis Steele:
“I’ve been speaking to people from the Leipzig camp, from the Diamande camp and also from people in this country as well. As I said last week, I do, I really do, I do think this one will happen. I mean publicly they’re saying he’s not for sale but privately, I know privately, they’re sort of conceding the fact that they are going to have to sell him.”
Liverpool need two wingers and can’t just settle for Diomande this summer, however, and now a new target has emerged in that area of the pitch.
According to TuttoMercatoWeb [via Sport Witness], Schjelderup is an option for the Reds, with the 22-year-old currently representing Norway at the 2026 World Cup.
Tottenham, Milan, Como and Atletico Madrid are all thought to be in the mix, too, with a separate report from Record saying a move to the Premier League appeals to him, having seen it as a dream since childhood.
Is Andreas Schjelderup good enough to shine for Liverpool?
Schjelderup is another eye-catching wide target for Liverpool ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League season, as Andoni Iraola looks to sign players who are perfect for his system.
The Norwegian is a left winger, so he generally plays on the opposite flank to Diomande, so he could be seen as an alternative option to Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola.
Schjelderup has 15 goals and assists apiece in 86 appearances for Benfica, and netted once in 14 caps for Norway, while former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien has lauded him, saying:
“Schjelde has everything to take even bigger steps. The sky’s the limit. He can play for the biggest clubs in the world. Personally, I’d like to see him at Real Madrid or another big club.”
Barcola is arguably the best left-sided option for Liverpool, but if Schjelderup ends up being the man to come in, he has the ability to be a great long-term addition.
