Leeds United have avoided paying Liverpool a fee after agreeing a deal to sign Fulham star Harry Wilson as a free agent. The winger started his career with the Reds before making the switch to Fulham back in 2021.

Wilson worked his way through Liverpool's academy, going on to make two first-team appearances under Jurgen Klopp. The Wales international subsequently joined Fulham on an initial loan deal before completing a permanent £12million transfer to Craven Cottage.

During his time at the west London club, the 29-year-old accumulated 187 appearances for Marco Silva's side. He recently produced the finest campaign of his career to date, netting 10 Premier League goals and chipping in with seven assists, prompting calls for a return to his boyhood club.

As part of the £12m move that took him away from Anfield, Liverpool had negotiated a 15 per cent sell-on clause. However, the Reds will no longer benefit financially from Wilson's move to Leeds, subject to a completed medical, as he is poised to leave Fulham for free.

Leeds have struck a deal to sign Wilson, who reaches the end of his Fulham deal next week. The midfielder will join Daniel Farke's side once the necessary paperwork is completed, adding to the Welsh contingent within the squad.

Several clubs had been linked with Wilson before he chose Leeds as his next move. Fulham had attempted to tie Wilson to a new contract, which would have enabled Liverpool to still profit from any subsequent transfer battle.

Transfermarkt values Wilson at £21.55m following his outstanding season. Had Fulham managed to secure that fee while Wilson remained under contract, Liverpool would have pocketed £3.23m.

The Reds' prospects of the sell-on clause being activated were dealt a blow last summer. Leeds were keen on bringing Wilson to Elland Road a year ago, but the move fell through on deadline day.

Leeds had met Fulham's undisclosed asking price for the winger, with Wilson also agreeing to join the newly-promoted side. However, Fulham backed out of the deal in the last moments of the transfer window.
