Did Cole Palmer get scammed out of £10m by a Serbian project? Viral claim on X debunked

A post has been making the rounds on social media about how Chelsea ace Cole Palmer was scammed of £10 million by a Serbian project. The story has come up prominently as the midfielder had been away from the public eye in recent weeks since the start of the FIFA World Cup.

The post on X (formerly Twitter) said that Cole Palmer invested £10 million in a seaport project in Serbia but has lost his money. According to them, the English midfielder was unaware of the fact that Serbia is a land-locked country with no access to the sea, and only learned of this recently.

This trending post has no factual basis and is untrue, seeing as it has been going round on social media for the best part of a year. There was a post in September 2025 releasing the story as breaking news, but there is no evidence of such happening to Palmer or any other footballer.

Cole Palmer is currently enjoying his first summer break in nearly four years, having been left out of the England squad to the FIFA World Cup. He endured a below-par season at Stamford Bridge, leading Thomas Tuchel to overlook him in naming the Three Lions World Cup squad.

Palmer played in the U-21 Euros in the summer of 2023 and the Euros a year later in 2024. He also played for Chelsea in the FIFA Club World Cup last summer, and has finally gotten sufficient rest ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Do England miss Cole Palmer at the FIFA World Cup?

England have played two games at the FIFA World Cup this summer, winning one and drawing the other. The Three Lions are on the verge of a place in the Round of 32, but questions remain over their ability to go deep in the competition.

Thomas Tuchel's side faced a real test against Ghana in their second group game, as the Black Stars opted to sit deep and rely on counters. When England needed to break down the opponents, they could not for 90 minutes. This potentially gives other teams an idea on how to counter the Three Lions this summer.

A player like Cole Palmer would bring an element of unpredictability and creativity, which was sorely lacking against Ghana. The Chelsea man has a unique set of skills which would have been very useful for his side this summer, and he could have been an important player for them.
