Victor Munoz has spoken publicly for the first time since signing for Liverpool, explaining how Andoni Iraola “played an important role” in his decision to join the Reds.
Due to Munoz being involved in the World Cup with Spain, we haven’t had the usual welcome interview we have come to expect from new signings.
Speaking publicly for the first time since his £34.5 million move to Liverpool, Munoz told Spanish radio station Cadena SER that “it’s an opportunity you can’t pass up.”
Munoz had been set to join Newcastle before the Reds stepped in to pay his release clause at Osasuna.

Asked about the influence of Iraola on his decision to choose Anfield, the 22-year-old explained: “He instilled confidence in me, showed me how his team plays.
“He played an important role in my decision.”
The rapid left-winger also explained how the transfer had happened “very quickly” and that he was trying to concentrate on the World Cup:
“I’ve been focused on the World Cup. I haven’t wanted to hear much about my future unless it was something concrete.”
Munoz has spent the last year at Osasuna, whom he helped avoid relegation on goal difference thanks to his seven strikes and five assists this season.
He said of the Pamplona-based club: “It is an incredible place; I’ll always cherish it. They gave me the best year of my entire football career.”

Munoz was called up to Luis de la Fuente’s Spain squad despite having earned just two previous caps, but the winger hasn’t yet been able to feature.
A small muscular problem has kept him out of their opening two games and he will also miss their final group match against Uruguay.
Munoz said: “We were managing it, but I felt some discomfort and we are trying to get back on the pitch as soon as possible.
“These have been very difficult moments because this is my childhood dream, and seeing it all fall apart because of an injury is incredibly frustrating.
“It is all I think about (World Cup success). It’s a dream and I want to be back on the pitch as soon as possible.”
Thankfully, Munoz is now making progress in his recovery, training alone on Wednesday after warming up with the rest of the squad.

The help of Spain’s team psychologist, Javier Lopez Vallejo, has been appreciated by the youngster: “I have talks with Javi both here and away.
“He helps me a lot, he helps me see another perspective on everything that happens here. It’s a pleasure to have him.”
Finally, he added: “My teammates have been a fundamental pillar in keeping me motivated every day.”
As mentioned, we won’t see Munoz in the group stage, but he could still feature in the latter stages of the tournament.
De la Fuente was bullish about the attacker’s chances of featuring, saying on Saturday: “Mark my words, Victor is going to be very important for us in this World Cup.”
We’re looking forward to seeing it!
