Arsenal have reportedly been in talks with Bruno Guimaraes' representatives as Newcastle United are expecting an approach from the Premier League champions. The Brazil international has been linked to the Gunners since arriving at St James' Park with it seeming as though there is a real chance he leaves this summer.
That is because of Newcastle United's failure to qualify for any form of European football in the same season Arsenal finally claimed a major piece of silverware. Following that, Mikel Arteta wants to strengthen his squad with sporting director Andrea Berta getting to work on Guimaraes and several others.
According to The Daily Mail, Newcastle are braced for an approach from Arsenal, who have already been in discussions with Guimaraes' camp.
Their report adds however, that the 28-year-old has not indicated a desire to leave but Newcastle are aware that he is under consideration by several clubs. His current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2028.

Guimaraes is currently away at the World Cup with Brazil and is joined in the United States by Arsenal duo Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Martinelli.
As evidenced by his three assists so far at the tournament, Guimaraes would bring a new edge to Arsenal's midfield but they could face difficulty in bringing him to north London.
Anthony Gordon's £69million move to Barcelona means Newcastle are not really in a position where they need to sell.
Exactly how much Guimaraes would cost is also unclear but there could be some acceptance by Newcastle that a move now is best for all parties due to the former Lyon man having 12 months remaining on his contract this time next year.

A potential deal for Guimaraes could also be blocked by bitter rivals Tottenham due to their move for Sandro Tonali. Roberto De Zerbi's side have already seen an offer pushed back for the Italian, who would favour a move to the Gunners over Spurs.
However, Guimaraes looks to be the chosen Newcastle midfielder with Arteta looking to add depth all across the pitch.

Arsenal have also just announced their first arrival with Piero Hincapie joining on a permanent deal from Bayer Leverkusen after spending last season on loan at the club.
He is another Gunners star at the World Cup with many transfer targets for Berta also currently stateside. Morgan Rogers is in action for England while Lille's Ayyoub Bouaddi, who would be an alternative to Guimaraes, putting in some fine displays for Morocco.
