'I'm told' - NUFC insider claims Tottenham target actually wants to join Arsenal

Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali would prefer joining Arsenal ahead of Tottenham Hotspur, according to the Telegraph journalist and Magpies insider Luke Edwards.

Spurs want the Italian but have seen Newcastle turn down their second approach for him.

Arsenal have also been linked with Tonali, but they have yet to make any concrete approach for him.

The Gunners pipped Tottenham to Eberechi Eze last summer, with the England international attacker opting for Arsenal at the last minute despite coming very close to joining Spurs.

I’m pretty relaxed about the Bruno situation at Newcastle following today’s links to Arsenal. He wants a new contract at #nufc and has done for a while. I’m viewing it through that lens at the moment.

I also don’t think Tonali really wants to go to Spurs. I’m told he would…

The Lilywhites have offered £75 million for the Newcastle star, but the Magpies insist on getting something close to £100m.

Arsenal are looking elsewhere as they prefer Tonali’s teammate Bruno Guimaraes instead.

He has also been linked to Tottenham, but it appears he also wants to join the Gunners, seemingly dropping a huge hint on social media this evening after the news broke.

Spurs are still yet to get over losing Eze to Arsenal and they will hope Tonali is

really keen on joining them.

The Lilywhites have signed Martin Dubravka, Jan Paul van Hecke, Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi so far this summer and have reportedly reached a verbal agreement with West Ham United United for Portuguese midfielder Mateus Fernandes.

More signings are expected and Tottenham could look to avoid entering any transfer battle with Arsenal after last summer’s experience.
