Victor Munoz has spoken publicly for the first time since joining Liverpool, revealing that Andoni Iraola played an important role in his decision to move to Anfield.
With Munoz currently away on international duty with Spain at the World Cup, Liverpool supporters have yet to see the traditional welcome interview usually given by new signings.
Speaking to Spanish radio station Cadena SER following his £34.5million move, the versatile forward described the transfer as “an opportunity you can’t pass up.”
Munoz had initially been expected to join Newcastle United before Liverpool intervened and triggered his release clause at Osasuna.
Munoz said: “It’s an opportunity you can’t pass up. He (Andoni Iraol) instilled confidence in me, showed me how his team plays.
“He played an important role in my decision. The transfer happened very quickly. I’ve been focused on the World Cup. I haven’t wanted to hear much about my future unless it was something concrete.”
Victor Munoz spent last season at Osasuna, helping them narrowly avoid relegation on goal difference after contributing seven goals and five assists.
Despite having only two previous caps, he was called up to Luis de la Fuente’s Spain squad for the World Cup, although he is yet to feature.
A minor muscular issue has ruled him out of Spain’s opening two matches, and he will also miss their final group game against Uruguay.
Munoz added: “We were managing it, but I felt some discomfort and we are trying to get back on the pitch as soon as possible.
“These have been very difficult moments because this is my childhood dream, and seeing it all fall apart because of an injury is incredibly frustrating. It is all I think about (World Cup success). It’s a dream and I want to be back on the pitch as soon as possible.”
Victor Munoz is continuing his recovery after injury, training individually on Wednesday after initially completing his warm-up with the rest of the squad.
