Manchester City have agreed a deal to sign midfielder Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, according to Fabrizio Romano. An agreement has been reached between the clubs, with the deal worth up to £130million.
Romano posted on X: “Elliot Anderson to Manchester City, here we go! Deal in place between the clubs, fee up to £130m. #MCFC sources confirm agreement now done after talks at final stages as reported last week. Anderson asked Forest today to go and leave the club. Medical in the US.”
Nottingham Forest had wanted the guaranteed fee for any sale of Elliot Anderson to exceed the £125million British-record sum that Liverpool paid Newcastle United for Alexander Isak last summer.
The verbal proposal was City’s second bid, with an opening offer having been rejected earlier this month. Anderson joined Forest in 2023 in a deal worth £35million, which saw Odysseas Vlachodimos move in the opposite direction and valued the England international at £15million.
Since arriving at the City Ground, Anderson has racked up 92 appearances for Forest, featuring in every Premier League match during the 2025-26 season while contributing four goals and four assists.
The highly-rated midfielder made his England debut in September and was subsequently named in Thomas Tuchel‘s World Cup squad.
He started both of England’s matches against Croatia and Ghana and is expected to retain his place for Saturday’s clash with Panama.
Manchester City are always in the market for top English talent, partly because of homegrown regulations and the proven quality such players bring in the Premier League.
Elliot Anderson fits that profile and is viewed as a potential replacement for Bernardo Silva. Despite playing for a possession-light Forest side, Anderson recorded more touches than any other player in the Premier League last season, underlining his influence and involvement.
His superb goal against City in a 2-2 draw in March also highlighted his quality. City have previously struggled when signing cheaper alternatives to their established stars, with Kalvin Phillips and Nico Gonzalez failing to make the desired impact.
With Bernardo departing, however, City can target a player capable of making an immediate difference, and Anderson appears to fit the bill.
